Dense Disparity Estimation in Ego-motion Reduced Search Space

چکیده
Depth estimation from stereo images remains a challenge even though studied for decades. The KITTI benchmark shows that the state-of-the-art solutions offer accurate depth estimation, but are still computationally complex and often require a GPU or FPGA implementation. In this paper we aim at increasing the accuracy of depth map estimation and reducing the computational complexity by using information from previous frames. We propose to transform the disparity map of the previous frame into the current frame, relying on the estimated ego-motion, and use this map as the prediction for the Kalman filter in the disparity space. Then, we update the predicted disparity map using the newly matched one. This way we reduce disparity search space and flickering between consecutive frames, thus increasing the computational efficiency of the algorithm. In the end, we validate the proposed approach on real-world data from the KITTI benchmark suite and show that the proposed algorithm yields more accurate results, while at the same time reducing the disparity search space.

Accurate estimation of ego-motion heavily relies on correct point correspondences in the context of visual odometry. In this paper, a new approach for optimizing disparity candidates space is proposed for the solution of dense stereo matching problem. The main objectives of this approachare the reduction of average number of disparity candidates per pixel with low computational cost and high assurance of retaining the correct answer. These can be realized due to the effective use of multiple radial windows, i...

We describe an ego-motion algorithm based on dense spatiotemporal correspondences, using semi-global stereo matching (SGM) and bilateral image warping in time. The main contribution is an improvement in accuracy and robustness of such techniques, by taking care of speed and numerical stability, while employing twice the structure and data for the motion estimation task, in a symmetric way. متن کاملDense disparity estimation from feature correspondences
Stereoscopic disparity plays an important role in the processing and compression of 3-D imagery. For example, dense disparity fields are used to reconstruct intermediate (varying-viewpoint) images. Although for small camera baselines dense disparity can be reliably estimated using gradient-based methods, this is not the case for large baselines due to the violation of underlying assumptions (e....
متن کاملHierarchical Stereo Matching in Two-Scale Space for Cyber-Physical System
Dense disparity map estimation from a high-resolution stereo image is a very difficult problem in terms of both matching accuracy and computation efficiency. Thus, an exhaustive disparity search at full resolution is required. In general, examining more pixels in the stereo view results in more ambiguous correspondences. When a high-resolution image is down-sampled, the high-frequency component...
